June 28^th(Thursday) 1996

"Rocky wait up!" Colt shouted as he peddles faster in an attempted to catch up with his older brother. Rocky, who is on his own bike coasting down a hill, just a block away from their home.

"What's his hurry?" Tum Tum asks as he puffs and caches up with Colt.

"I don't know. May be he's in a hurry to see Emily."

Colt & Tum Tum went down the hill and soon pasted Rocky. They stopped their bikes in their drive way, but Rocky stopped in Emily's drive, which is located next to his house.

"Hi Rock!" Emily greeted. She was in the process of loading a suitcase in to the back of her dad's Ford.

"Miles told me you're movie this morning." Rocky gushes.

Emily hooked a lock of stray hair be hind her left ear. "Yes. We're movie during summer vacation." She frond sadly, " I was hoping to go with you to your Grandpa's cabin this year too."

She remembered the times that Rocky had given her 1 on 1 instructions in self-defiance so Derran & his gang couldn't mug her any more. For the past 5 months Rocky & her had been planing on coning his grandpa in to letting her come this summer.

"The baby is dew soon & Mom really wants to put him in his own room." Emily said with a sigh.

She had two brothers, Eddy & Miles. They shard a room and protested against the idea of getting a new roommate. So Mrs.Bruce, their mom, decided their house was too small & their dad agreed.

"I'm going to miss you." Rocky as he kicked a stone with the tips of his sneakers.

Colt & Tum finely poked their heads after parking their bikes. Colt cocked an eye brow as he watched Rocky talk to Emily. Some thing was up.

"When are you movie to?" Tum Tum asked as he popped a sucker in to his mouth.

"This summer. We'll probably be gone be fore you guys get back. We have to be moved before the baby is dew, wich is July 12^th."

"You think he'll be born on my birthday instead?!" Tum asks excitedly.

"NOT!" Colt replies equally enthused.

" I don't think Mrs.Bruce wants to carry the baby for 2 extra weeks." Rocky added.

 "Can’t I open it now before you leave? So you can see my happy face & all?" Tum Tum asked And hammed things up a little by making an angelic facile expression

Emily, Rocky & Colt laughed.

"I'll have Colt to deliver it if you even try sneaking a peek!" Emily state in mock anger. She ran in to her house and came back out in a flash. "Now who's going to deliver it?"

"I will!" Colt shouted and snatched the neatly wrapped up box.

It was only 4 Inches by 6, Tum Tum wandered what could. be in it.

"Thanks Em!" Tum Tum hollered and chased after Colt, who is running to their house.

"Mom!" Colt yeld.

"No, let me look first!" is the last things Rocky & Emily heard from them before they got in to the house.

"Was there some thing you wanted to tell me?" Emily asked now that Colt & Tum Tum was gone.

"If we won't be able to see each other much, I think we should be able to see others…." Rocky felt a tinge guilty. He'd been sad when he first heard that Emily was moving away. Until he got to school and found out that Lisa Dinmarino had dumped Derran. Now she was available, and he might soon be too!

Emily looked at rocky oddly.

"Is Miyo coming back?"

"What?!" Rocky exclaimed, his eyes a little bit big.

"I know you like her. She nice…" Emily only sounded a bit hurt to Rocky's amazement.

"Yes, I do like her. But she lives in Japan So we're just friends. We still write each other e-mail you know."

Emily Nods. "Yes I know."

"So we're are you going?" Rocky changed the subject and pointed to suit case she'd put the her dad's car earlier.

"Dad is going to a job interview. He might get a job at the news paper in small town near the boarder."

"So are you moving that far south?"

"May be. Dad really only agreed to the move cause it gave him a reason to get out of the job he has now."

"I thought he liked the times?"

"I dose like the big stories, but he's tired of the people he has to work with and do interviews with. They're not all ways pleasant."

"Will we see each other on the week ends then?"

"If I get my license soon I'd drive up every Saturday."

"You'll probably meet a lot of guys down there."

Emily smiled a little, "is that why you want us to see other people?" She recalled the Summer of the baseball championship game in '94. She'd broken up with Rocky because she'd met a cute French boy. Rocky intern turned all his attention to Lisa.

"You never know when you might meet your one & only."

Emily nodded. "As long as we're still friends."

Rocky smiled. "Of course. Are you going to be in school tomorrow? It's the last day."

"Sure I will. I only missed today because mom thought she was going in to early labor. The baby & her are fine though."

"I better go home for dinner. See you later Em'!"

"Bye Rock."

The next day at School Rocky pounded his head in to his locker.

"Are you alright?" Jennifer asked, her & her friend had just tolled Rocky the bad news.

"I'm fine."

"Samuel, the word around the school is that Emily & you broke up." Jennifer states and her friend took her cue and walked away to leave them alone, or as alone as two people can be while standing in the hall of a school as crowded as theirs.

"We're not really broken up, just decided to see other people. Is Lisa really get back with Derran?"

"Yes I'm Sure. I take English with her & eat at the same table with her every day. She says that it was just her temperament run away with her she broke up with him, but she realized she can't live with out him."

Rocky pooled out his history book from his locker. "I'll see you when school starts back up." He says and starts to walk to his next class.

Jennifer walked with him, "Do you want to write me during summer brake? I'll be away with my family on a trip, but we could write letters a little."

Rocky smiled, he forgot that he was still on the rebound and decided to take a chance with Jennifer. "I'll be at my Grandpa's cabin like every year, here." He ripped a peace of paper out of his history notebook and wrote down his grandpa's address on it. "You can write to me here."

"Cool." Jennifer took a peace of scratch paper out of her pocket that had an address on it. "I'll be staying there this summer."

She smiled and went to her next class. As soon as she'd heard that he'd broken up with Emily she was determined to snatch him up before any one else did. She counted her blessing that Lisa would go back to Derran.

She'd only learned that Rocky liked Lisa through Colt a few weeks ago in their homeroom class.

"This is great! they fienely got the sport center up." Colt says as they passed threw town.

"How's Homer doing?" Tum Tum asked their grandpa and ignord Colt.

"Homer?" Grandpa grounted then answerd, "he's doing fine, distroing my kitchen however."

"Don't worry, We talked to Mom about bring that crazy parit home this Fall, she said as long at Tum Tum takes care of it it will be fine." Rocky siad hoping to calm Grandpa's nervs.

Homer was a beautiful Parit that the boys had found and Tum Tum had insisted on keeping last Summer.

"Just as long as Tum Tum takes care of it, it's HIS bird!" Colt chimed in. He didn't want to have any thing to do with the nosing maker.

Later that day there was a knock at the cabin door.

"Homer come back!!" Tum Tum hollers and chasses the colerful bird across the living room. He'd gotten out of his cage, again, and Tum Tum had to put him back before Grandpa found out.

Rocky shook his head and laughed.

Colt walked over to the door to answer it, "What the...?"

There stud before him a native woman leaning in to the door post, she swade back and forth before Colt caught her in his very strong arms. Had she been capable of thought the woman might have been serprised at such stragnth in a youth.

"Rocky!!" Colt yells and cares her in to the cabin.

"Colt what did you?" Rocky askes and helps him to set her down on the coutch.

"Nothing," Colt definds himself.

"She probable took one look at him and fainted," Tum Tum teases. The moment he stoped chacing Homer, the bird sweeps down and takes a set on Tum Tum's should.

"Yeah right. He's not that good looking." Rocky says only parshly jealius. "Go get a pitcher of water and a glass. Colt you go get some blankits." Rocky orders as he kneels down and inspects the woman.

She was sweating, and had a broos on her forhead. Her arms had tiny scratchs on them, as if she'd been running trhough the brush near by.

"Ma'am," Rocky says softly, "are you running from someone?" She rooled her head a little, but that was the only move she made.

Colt came back with a quilt from Grandpa's room and gently placed it on her. "I was thinking, may be Jo knows her. Cents she's-"

"Yeah, I was wandering the same thing. Why don't you call Jo. I'm going to finish making dinner." Rocky rose from the flour, but a callis hand grabed his, "he..help..me.." She wispers in a horse voice.
